SUBJECT
On 19 September 2018, Greenpeace published a report, Final Countdown: Now or Never to Reform the Palm Oil Industry. The report claimed that between December 2014 and March 2018, PT Hardaya Inti Plantations (PT HIP), a subsidiary of CCM, cleared 434 ha of forest including primary forest based on the Ministry of Environment and Forestry 2015 national land cover map.

Apical requested clarification from CCM on the allegations.

PT HIP responded claiming that they have acted in compliance with all government requirements with regards to the development of the area mentioned in the report. PT HIP also responded to Greenpeace on 19 September 2018 in regard to the allegation.
Our findings based on desktop analysis, is consistent with PT HIP’s clarification.Apical will monitor future development of the case and gather the necessary information .
January 2019
Based on our meeting with CCM, they have stopped land clearing in all the concessions and developed remedial actions plan. CCM is currently in the process of conducting integrated HCV-HCS assessments for all the concessions. CCM is also working with Aidenvironment to develop their sustainability policy.
Apical will continue to monitor their implementation progress.
February 2020
Apical conducted a site visit at PT HIP under our Priority Supplier Engagement Program (PSEP). Based on the site visit, PT HIP agreed to implement action plans in addressing the gaps identified by Apical during PSEP.
September 2020
Based on our internal monitoring system, we found that there was a potential forest clearing of 78 ha from Jan 2020 to June 2020 in PT HIP. Apical sought clarification on the potential clearing happening in PT HIP during this period.
CCM clarified that the clearing was conducted by local communities for farming purposes. CCM also confirmed that they is no new land clearing in PT HIP by the company.
August 2021
CCM provided their Sustainability Policy to Apical, dated June 2021.
January 2023
Apical stopped sourcing from CCM since Dec 2022.
January 2025
Apical maintains its position of not sourcing from CCM. We consider this case closed.
