Agrosubur Group


A report by Mighty Earth published on 1 February 2020 claimed that PT Karya Dewi Putra (PT KDP), a subsidiary of Agrosubur Group, of deforestation. In the Rapid Response Report 24, PT KDP was reported clearing 102 hectares of forest and another 22 hectares prepare for clearing/stacking lines between 15 November 2019 and 13 January 2020.

We communicated immediately with Agrosubur Group to seek clarification on the matter.

The company clarified that PT KDP has no land clearing activities or not in the process to expand the planted area. Based on internal investigation, they found that:

  • The coordinate mentioned in the report (-1.359,112.811 and -1.359. 112.817) located outside of PT KDP concession.
  • From 108 ha of land clearing reported, 47 ha is located inside of HGU PT KDP. However, this is for the road corridor by other company which open up access for encroachment by local community. Meanwhile, another 15 ha located inside Izin Likasi PT KDP but outside of HGU. The clearing is for the same corridor for the road by the company. The encroachment has been reported to the police with report number 023/SSL-RO/VII/2019 and the encroachment has stopped.
  • Another 46 ha of the clearing mentioned located outside of Izin Lokasi, Izin Usaha Perkebunan and HGU of PT KDP.
  • PT KDP has increase the security in the area by established a pos security, put up a signboard that the area belong to PT KDP and patrolling in the illegal logging and encroachment.

Apical has a meeting with PT KDP and they have shown the evidence of its overlay map, the police report and photos of the encroachment by the local people.

A meeting with Mighty Earth to informed on the findings of the case. Mighty Earth requested for copies documents to be shared. Apical need to get consent from PT KDP to release it to third party

June 2020

PT KDP in a letter dated 5 June 2020, informed Apical that the documents is confidential and sensitive, hence, it is solely for Apical reference.

Tim juga mengawasi program Tanggung Jawab Sosial Perusahaan (CSR) untuk mendukung penghidupan yang lebih baik di masyarakat setempat.

Mencapai tujuan keberlanjutan membutuhkan lebih dari sekadar kolaborasi dengan pemangku kepentingan utama kami. Kolaborasi lintas industri dan perusahaan sejenis juga penting dan karenanya, kami terus mencari dan berpartisipasi dalam kemitraan baru, keanggotaan industri yang relevan, dan skema sertifikasi.

Kami berpartisipasi dalam skema keanggotaan dan sertifikasi industri seperti Tropical Forest Alliance 2020, Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), termasuk P&C Review Taskforce RSPO dan National Interpretation Working Group RSPO Indonesia, International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC), dan Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO).

At Apical Group, our commitment to sustainability stems right from the top. Apical’s President is supported by the Director of Sustainability and various business heads, to ensure sustainability is integrated within business and functional units, and embedded in the company’s core values and initiatives.

Sustainability topics are discussed at Board meetings held quarterly. We also have dedicated Sustainability teams based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Pekanbaru, Dumai, Medan, Jakarta and Balikpapan in Indonesia. In addition, there is also a dedicated Social, Security and Licensing (SSL) department in each refinery we own, to handle social and licensing matters in compliance with national regulations as well as Apical Sustainability Policy. The team also oversees Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes to support better livelihoods in local communities.

Achieving sustainability goals requires more than just collaboration with our key stakeholders. Collaboration across industries and peer companies is also crucial and hence, we constantly look for and participate in new partnerships, relevant industry membership and certification schemes.
