Apical Group Invests US$1 Billion to Expand Palm Oil Downstream Products in Dumai, Riau

Jakarta, February 21, 2024 – Apical Group, a leading player in the palm oil downstream sector, has unveiled its ambitious plans for 2024 as part of efforts to enhance market penetration and broader collaborations. One of their primary focuses is to increase the number of distributor partners on Java Island while expanding into new distribution areas beyond Java. This move is expected to strengthen their distribution network and support local economic growth.

In line with the Indonesian government’s industrialization program, Apical Group, a front-runner in vegetable oil processing, particularly palm oil, announced a significant expansion through a US$1 billion investment in Dumai, Riau, which commenced at the end of 2021. The investment aims to boost the production of value-added products, aligning with Indonesia’s vision to advance downstream industries.

“This investment is a strategic step for Apical in supporting the Indonesian government’s vision to increase the value of the palm oil industry. We believe that through downstream activities, we can make a significant contribution to the national economy, create job opportunities, and support the growth of SMEs,” stated Manumpak Manurung, Head of Government and Industry Relations at Apical Group, during a media meet-up attended by InfoSAWIT on Tuesday (20/2/2024) in Jakarta.

Additionally, Apical Group plans to conduct a series of baking demos continuously. These activities will involve SMEs, local governments, and other food industries on Java Island, expanding to Sumatra, Kalimantan, and Sulawesi. This strategic step aims to broaden their national footprint and strengthen partnerships with various stakeholders across Indonesia.

Furthermore, Apical Group reaffirms its commitment to hosting independent demo events primarily focused on Java Island. This demonstrates their concrete efforts to enhance market penetration in strategically important regions for their business. Moreover, they have set efficient pricing strategies to maintain competitiveness in an increasingly competitive market.

Together with various stakeholders, including local governments, food industry companies, and SMEs, Apical aims to collaborate actively. Through partnerships with SMEs, Apical hopes to stimulate the growth of SMEs in the food industry and enhance the brand image of Apical, especially Vitas, Medalia, and Frybest. Collaboration with local SMEs also provides opportunities for the wider community, including SMEs, to explore various culinary creations using Apical products.

Market Development Manager at Apical Group, George Tjijptamustika, revealed that throughout 2023, Apical collaborated with various stakeholders, including local governments, companies in the food industry, and UMKM. Through collaboration with UMKM, Apical hopes to stimulate the growth of UMKM in the food industry sector while strengthening the brand image of Apical, especially Vitas, Medalia, and Frybest. Collaboration with local UMKM also provides opportunities for the broader community, including UMKM, to explore various culinary creations using Apical products.

Looking ahead to 2024, George outlined one of their targets, which includes increasing the number of distributor partners on Java Island as our focus area and opening up new distribution areas outside Java.

“We will also conduct various sustainable baking demonstration activities in collaboration with UMKM, local governments, and other food industries, not only on Java Island but also in Sumatra, Kalimantan, and Sulawesi,” he said.

In addition to collaborative activities, we also aim to conduct independent demonstration activities focused on Java Island first this year. “Finally, we are working on establishing an efficient pricing strategy to be more competitive,” emphasized George.
