As a responsible business committed to building a traceable and transparent palm oil supply chain, Apical — one of the largest exporters of palm oil in Indonesia — developed a Shared Value Programme to equip its Riau-based suppliers with the knowledge and good practices to help them gain a competitive edge in meeting global requirements in sustainable palm oil through policy deployment, supply chain mapping, and smallholder engagement.

The inaugural Apical Shared Value Programme workshop for suppliers was held on Nov 2, 2016

On November 2, 2016, Apical organised its first Shared Value Programme workshop for suppliers in Riau, supported by IDH – The Sustainable Trade Initiative, Yayasan SETARA Jambi, Serikat Petani Kelapa Sawit (SPKS), and The Forest Trust (TFT). It was attended by more than 30 participants from 18 groups of companies. They ranged from business owners to sustainability leaders to commercial heads.

The workshop included topics such as market trends in sustainability and traceability and the implications to palm oil businesses owners, case studies in traceability and engagement with smallholders, practical knowledge on sustainability good practices with toolkit to aid implementation and monitoring, and more.

The participants ranged from business owners to sustainability leaders to commercial heads.

This workshop is one of Apical’s key initiatives in driving change towards greater transparency and sustainability in its supply chain.
