Balikpapan Mayor Recognises Apical Group For COVID-19 Pandemic Support

The Mayor of Balikapan, Rizal Effendi, has expressed his appreciation of Apical Group’s operations PT Kutai Refinery Nusantara (Apical Balikpapan) for its response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Apical Balikpapan donated 256 food packages to Balikpapan’s COVID-19 Task Force, providing support for local communities and schools.

The food packages were handed over to Mayor Rizal Effendi in front of the Makodim 0905 / Balikpapan on 22 June 2020. Each package comprises 5kg of rice, 1 liter of cooking oil, 1kg of sugar, tea, milk and eggs.

Expressing his gratitude and appreciation of Apical Balikpapan, Mr Rizal said, “This donation will be given to affected communities and schools that are outside the focus of the government assistance program. For this effort, Apical Balikpapan deserves a special award. The company has proactively taken additional measures to continuously respond the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Committed to its 5Cs operating principle of doing good for the community, country, climate, customer and company, Apical Balikpapan followed up the food package donation efforts with a donation of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) on 26 June 2020.

“If there is anything COVID-19 can teach us, it will be a new form of caring. It has shown us how we are all connected in challenging times such as the current pandemic. We hope to be able to continue our assistance to ease the burden of affected communities. We also hope the community finds this donation helpful and give them support and encouragement they need,” said Dodi Saputra, Apical Balikpapan Human Relations.

Mencapai tujuan keberlanjutan membutuhkan lebih dari sekadar kolaborasi dengan pemangku kepentingan utama kami. Kolaborasi lintas industri dan perusahaan sejenis juga penting dan karenanya, kami terus mencari dan berpartisipasi dalam kemitraan baru, keanggotaan industri yang relevan, dan skema sertifikasi.

At Apical Group, our commitment to sustainability stems right from the top. Apical’s President is supported by the Director of Sustainability and various business heads, to ensure sustainability is integrated within business and functional units, and embedded in the company’s core values and initiatives.

Sustainability topics are discussed at Board meetings held quarterly. We also have dedicated Sustainability teams based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Pekanbaru, Dumai, Medan, Jakarta and Balikpapan in Indonesia. The Sustainability teams are tasked with implementing and monitoring our commitments through constructive stakeholder engagement and collaboration.

In addition, there is also a dedicated Social, Security and Licensing (SSL) department in each refinery we own, to handle social and licensing matters in compliance with national regulations as well as Apical Sustainability Policy. The team also oversees Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes to support better livelihoods in local communities.

Achieving sustainability goals requires more than just collaboration with our key stakeholders. Collaboration across industries and peer companies is also crucial and hence, we constantly look for and participate in new partnerships, relevant industry membership and certification schemes.
